Discovering South Woodham Ferrers
South Woodham Ferrers is centrally located between Chelmsford, Basildon and Southend-on-Sea. The towns of Burnham on Crouch and Maldon are also not too far away. There is easy access to the A12, A13, A127 and M25 and London Liverpool Street is approximately 50 minutes by train.
The town has a population of around 20,000, creating a warm and friendly community in which to live. The town centre is pedestrian friendly and includes a large Asda superstore as well as a number of specialist shops, cafes, restaurants and hotel.
The swimming pool has recently been opened and other facilities available include Club Woodham and a host of sporting clubs. The Village Hall and the Community Centre also provide a range of local promotions and events as well as a bowling green.
As a riverside town there are walks along the River Crouch and Country Park. Marsh Farm is a working farm open to the public and schoolchildren. The area is one of the top coastal wetlands in the country. Compass Gardens and Saltcoats Park provide restful gardens, childrens plays areas and sports pitches.
Public transport includes bus services to Chelmsford, Basildon and the Dengie Village Link service. Trains run to London Liverpool Street and Southminster with connections to Southend and East Anglia. There are a number of good local taxi and private hire services available.
Churches are to be found offering facilities for most denominations and there are a number of doctors surgeries, health clinic, dentists and vets.
The local infant/junior schools are located throughout the town and the senior school is in the town centre.
